Chisholm Conquers Route 66, Delivers Skyrocket Balanced Speed a Top-Three Sweep
AMARILLO, Tex. (August 22, 2026) — Brandon Davis’ incredible six-race winning streak came to an end Saturday night as Jim Chisholm charged from the 10th starting position to capture the $7,000 top prize on Night 2 of the 13th Annual Topless Amarillo Ambush at the Route 66 Motor Speedway.
It was a memorable night for the Osage, Iowa, driver, who earned his fourth Summit Racing Equipment USMTS presented by RacinDirt.com victory of the season and the 22nd win of his USMTS career.
Chisholm’s victory was only part of the celebration. The Featherlite Trailers Top 3 was made up entirely of Balanced Speed race cars, with Reece Solander finishing second and Kale Westover taking third.
The evening began with Kyle Brown setting the fastest time in Hodges Farms & Dredging LLC Group Qualifying No. 1. Brown earned an additional $100 from Hodges Farms & Dredging for his quick-time effort and carried that speed into the heat races.
Brown drove the No. 21K to victory in Simpson Race Products Heat Race No. 1, while Kale Westover, Cameron Gillmore and Steve Lavasseur also picked up heat-race victories to secure their places in the 50-lap main event.
Tyler Stevens earned the Sybesma Graphics Pole Award and led the field to the green flag for the second night of racing at the fast Route 66 Motor Speedway.
Stevens took control at the start and paced the opening 18 circuits before Brandon Givens powered into the lead.
Once in front, Givens appeared to have the race under control. The Wichita, Kansas, driver opened a comfortable advantage and looked to be headed toward victory as the laps clicked away.
Givens earned the MD3 Lap Leader Award after leading the most laps, but heartbreak struck with only eight laps remaining. A broken pull bar on the No. 10B brought his impressive run to an abrupt end on lap 42.
The mechanical failure handed the lead to Chisholm, but the victory was far from secured.
Solander stayed glued to Chisholm’s rear bumper during the closing laps and applied heavy pressure as the two racers fought for the win. Chisholm remained composed, hit his marks and kept Solander behind him through the final turn.
Chisholm crossed the finish line first to collect the $7,000 winner’s paycheck and put an end to Davis’ six-race USMTS winning streak.
After beginning the race from the outside of the fifth row, Chisholm’s drive from 10th to first also earned him the FK Rod Ends Hard Charger Award.
Solander settled for the runner-up position after challenging Chisholm throughout the final handful of laps. His second-place finish kept him within striking distance of the top five in the Wieland Metal Services USMTS National Championship standings.
Westover completed the all-Balanced Speed podium with a third-place finish after starting eighth. Westover put himself in contention several times during the closing stages but was unable to make the final move needed to challenge for the victory.
“Downtown” Kyle Brown completed a strong night by finishing fourth. The Madrid, Iowa, driver backed up his quick time and heat-race victory with another solid main-event performance.
Brown currently sits sixth in the Wieland Metal Services USMTS National Championship standings, just 17 points behind Solander for the fifth position.
Veteran Terry Phillips rounded out the top five after spending much of the 50-lap main event pounding the cushion. The Springfield, Missouri, racer made several brief appearances in the third and fourth positions but was unable to advance any farther before the checkered flag.
Talan Willis charged from 12th to sixth, while Davis recovered from the 15th starting position to finish eighth. Although the six-race winning streak came to an end, Davis once again limited the damage with another strong run through the field.
Tanner Mullens advanced from 14th to ninth, while several drivers made impressive charges from deep in the starting lineup.
A.J. Sharpensteen climbed from 21st to 14th, Joe Duvall raced from 24th to 16th and Gene Weaver advanced eight positions from 25th to 17th.
With the Topless Amarillo Ambush in the books, Davis continues to lead the Wieland Metal Services USMTS National Championship standings. Chisholm’s victory allowed him to gain valuable ground, but Davis still holds a 69-point advantage.
Mullens remains third, 112 points behind the leader, while six-time USMTS National Champion Rodney Sanders is fourth and 124 markers out of the top spot. Solander rounds out the top five, 347 points behind Davis.
The Summit Racing Equipment USMTS presented by RacinDirt.com now turns its attention to one of the biggest and most prestigious events in all of Modified racing, the 27th Annual Featherlite Trailers Fall Jamboree at the Deer Creek Speedway, September 24–26.
Three huge nights of action await the Best of the Best as the battle for the USMTS National Championship continues at the legendary high-banked oval in Spring Valley, Minnesota.
Keep an eye on the official USMTS website and Facebook page for additional information regarding the 27th Annual Featherlite Trailers Fall Jamboree in the coming days.
