Davis Sweeps Show-Me Shootout with Late-Race Charge at Lucas Oil Speedway

2854 8/8/2026 USMTS - United States Modified Touring Series Davis Sweeps Show-Me Shootout with Late-Race Charge at Lucas Oil Speedway WHEATLAND, Mo. (August 8, 2026)— Brandon Davis continued one of the most impressive winning streaks in recent Summit Racing Equipment United States Modified Touring Series history Saturday night, charging from the seventh starting position to capture the finale of the 17th Annual Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout at Lucas Oil Speedway. With the victory, Davis completed a sweep of the two-night weekend in the Show-Me State, collected another $5,000 payday and extended his remarkable winning streak to five consecutive USMTS main events. It was also the 16th USMTS victory of Davis’ career as the driver from Hayfield, Minnesota, continued to strengthen his position atop the 2026 USMTS National Championship standings. For much of Saturday night’s main event, however, it appeared Tanner Mullens might be the driver bringing a streak to an end. Mullens began his evening by dominating Wieland Metal Services Heat Race No. 4 and carried that speed into the main event. Tyler Stevens fired from the pole and led the opening lap, but Mullens quickly began working his way toward the front. After maneuvering past Matthew Day and Stevens, Mullens took control and appeared to have the car to beat. He remained out front through lap 28 while Davis patiently worked his way through an extremely talented field. Starting seventh, Davis had plenty of work ahead of him. Passing opportunities were difficult to find, and many of the fastest competitors were searching around the top and middle portions of the Lucas Oil Speedway racing surface. Davis found something different. Keeping his machine committed to a narrow line through the middle and bottom of the racetrack, Davis steadily advanced through the field. While others searched for grip around the outside, Davis remained patient and continued closing the distance between himself and the leaders. On lap 29, Davis completed the pass on Mullens and took command of the race. Once in front, the reigning hottest driver on the USMTS tour held off the competition and raced to his fifth consecutive victory. “Wolff had a great line up top, and it was going to take a lot to get by him, but I kept it pretty well glued to the bottom, and that’s what worked best for us,” Davis said in Victory Lane. The victory capped a perfect weekend for Davis at Lucas Oil Speedway. After winning Thursday at Nevada and Friday night’s opener, he returned Saturday and proved he could get the job done from deeper in the starting field. Davis’ weekend sweep earned him a total of $13,000 and added even more momentum to his pursuit of the 2026 USMTS National Championship. Mullens settled for the runner-up position after leading the majority of the race. Despite coming up one spot short of the victory, Mullens delivered one of his strongest performances of the season and earned the MD3 Lap Leader of the Night Award. Six-time USMTS National Champion Rodney Sanders delivered another impressive charge through the field. Sanders started 10th in his MB Customs No. 20 and powered his way to a third-place finish. “The Rocket” appeared capable of challenging for another position or two late in the race, but he ran out of laps before he could mount a final charge on Davis and Mullens. Jim Chisholm completed a consistent night with a fourth-place finish. Chisholm spent most of the race running among the top three and four positions and remained in contention throughout the main event. Jake Timm completed the top five after putting together one of the biggest comebacks of the weekend. Timm experienced a difficult Friday night and failed to qualify for the main event. Saturday initially appeared to be headed in a similar direction, but the Winona, Minnesota, racer battled his way through the Real Racing Wheels B-Main with a fifth-place finish to earn a spot in the main event. Starting 22nd on the grid, Timm marched forward 17 positions and finished fifth to earn the FK Rod Ends Hard Charger Award. Several other competitors also produced impressive charges through the field during Saturday night’s program. Kyle Brown put on a show during Real Racing Wheels B-Main No. 2, advancing from sixth to capture the victory. Brown then started 15th in the main event and continued moving forward, eventually crossing the finish line in ninth. Cole Campbell earned Friday night’s FK Rod Ends Hard Charger Award and backed up that performance with another strong run Saturday. Campbell advanced from the 18th starting position to finish 10th. Dustin Hodges started 17th and climbed six positions to finish 11th, while Steve Lavasseur charged from the 24th starting position to finish 12th. Joe Duvall and A.J. Hoff each passed 10 competitors during the main event. Duvall advanced to finish 16th, while Hoff followed in the 17th position. The 17th Annual Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout once again delivered two nights of outstanding competition at one of the premier dirt-track facilities in the country. USMTS officials would like to thank the great race fans who attended the weekend, the drivers and teams who supported the event and the entire Lucas Oil Speedway staff for providing an outstanding racing surface both nights. The Summit Racing Equipment USMTS presented by RacinDirt.com will now turn its attention toward the Texas Panhandle. The next stop on the 2026 campaign will be Friday and Saturday, Aug. 21-22, for the 13th Annual Topless Amarillo Ambush at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas. More information regarding the two-night Amarillo event will be announced soon.
