Joe Chisholm Steals Fall Jamboree Opener from Brandon Davis
SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (September 24, 2026) — The 28th Annual Featherlite Trailers Fall Jamboree roared to life Thursday night at Deer Creek Speedway, bringing the Summit Racing Equipment United States Modified Touring Series presented by RacinDirt.com back to one of its biggest stages. From a track record in qualifying to four hard-fought heat races, opening night gave the crowd plenty to talk about before the main event even took the green flag.
Rodney Sanders delivered the first big moment, turning a 15.343-second lap in Hodges Farms & Dredging Qualifying Group A to set a new Deer Creek Speedway track record. The run earned Sanders $100 courtesy of Jeff Hodges and a custom piston trophy courtesy of JE Pistons. Lucas Schott, Cole Bennerotte, Brandon Davis and Jim Chisholm then picked up wins in the four heat races.
By the time the field rolled out for the main event, Davis appeared poised to own opening night. The Sybesma Graphics Pole Award winner led the field to the Gorsuch Performance Solutions green flag and controlled the first 14 laps. But when a caution for Terry Phillips brought everyone back together, Joe “Smoke” Chisholm saw his chance.
Chisholm went to work on the cushion as the race resumed, drove past Davis for the lead and stayed out front for the final 20 laps. His charge earned him the MD3 Lap Leader of the Night award, a $3,000 payday and the fifth USMTS victory of his career.
“I told my crew that I was either going to go forward or I was going to go backwards, but I wasn’t going to go without a fight,” Chisholm said in victory lane.
Chisholm also reflected on racing his brother Jim at last year’s Fall Jamboree. After starting 20th, Joe said he wanted Jim to know he was there when he arrived with a full head of steam. From that point on, he said, Jim raced him with a lot of respect.
Davis finished second and maintained his lead in the Wieland points standings. Jim Chisholm completed the Featherlite Trailers top-three podium, keeping himself within reach of Davis in the championship chase.
Tanner Mullens drove his No. 02 from 10th to fourth, while Jake Timm advanced from 11th to complete the top five. Dylan Thornton climbed from 14th to sixth.
Zach Brom made one of the biggest moves of the night, wheeling his No. 43 from 18th to seventh to claim FK Rod Ends Hard Charger of the Night honors. Kyle Brown also worked his way forward, improving from 19th on the starting grid to finish 12th.
The USMTS returns to Deer Creek Speedway on Friday night for Night No. 2 of the Featherlite Trailers Fall Jamboree. Follow the USMTS Facebook page and website for event updates and more information.
